The only part of the country that the GOP really is strong in now is...the Dirty South!! Mark Taylor got "thumped" in his bid for Gov. against Sonny Perdue. We've got to do some serious work down here before the 08 elections.

The Haditha Dam is in a hostile stretch of the Euphrates River 140 miles northwest of Baghdad where the marines do battle with insurgents in the oppressive heat. But for a few hours this summer, the chow hall inside the dam was transformed into a theater for five shapely dancers who seemed to embody many a young marine’s fantasy.

OMAHA, Neb. -- Robert Henderson was not fired as a state trooper because he belonged to the Ku Klux Klan and another white supremacist group, authorities said. Instead, he was ousted because he could not uphold public trust while participating in such groups, they said. An arbitrator disagreed, ordering the State Patrol to reinstate Henderson within 60 days and pay him back wages. The state went to court Friday to keep him off the force.

Arbitrator Paul J. Caffera, a New York lawyer, last week overturned the firing. He said Henderson was entitled to his First Amendment rights of free speech and that the state violated the troopers' contract, in part when it fired Henderson "because of his association with the Knights Party ... and the Ku Klux Klan."

Hannity & all his "wing-nut" friends made a big thing of Cynthia Mckinney having members of the New Black Panthers in her security detail. Wonder if they'll get upset about this??

Henderson also said he had joined the KKK, according to the arbitrator's report. He did so, he said, for two reasons: His wife had "divorced him for a minority" and the KKK gave him an avenue to vent his frustration.

This is just one officer that was outed. I wonder how many others there are like him around the country?? Every person of color in Nebraska should be outraged. ( We all should)

Mckinney's political career is more likely than not over. After her trouncing at the polls last week she continued to talk about voter irregularaties, etc...
She was made into a caricature by the GOP especially after the "incident" with the capitol police. Her biggest mistake was how she handled that, she should have immediately apologized and moved on.
Mckinney is someone who represented the "real" people of this state/country. She asked the questions that others were afraid to ask.
Was she perfect? No, but how many politicians are.

The debate yesterday with Mckinney/Johnson was another mud-fest. Did anyone notice how testy the moderator was?? Well of course much of the opposition to Mckinney is because of her "incident" with the capitol police. When this occured everyone said things like:"No one can hit a police officer";"We have to believe the officer's story";etc...

Most police officers are honest & trustworthy. Some of them are lying, filthy, crooks. Maybe behavior like this is a reason Mckinney felt threatened by the officer.

In recent news a homeless man from DC was digging through a dumpster for coins and bottles to redeen for cash. He found discarded savings bond totaling $21,000. He turned them in to his shelter and got a $100 reward!! Out of $21,000 he only got $100. The family that owned the savings bonds didn't even know about the money. They should have given him at least $1,000.
The people in DC felt bad about his reward money and contributed $4,000 to him for being honest. Another contributor also donated an apartment for 3 months to help him get back on his feet. Thank the lord somebody cares. What was he going to do with a $100???

Seems like for some reason the heat is on Cynthia Mckinney. There has been a lot of talk about her upcoming run-off election with Hank Johnson both locally & nationwide. I even saw a "Beat Cynthia" banner ad for Johnson on one of my fav liberal blogs. Why does she have so many critics these days?? The republicans I can understand, hell I even expect to be critical. I mean this is the woman who way back in 02' called for an investigation into 9/11 & gw's knowledge of impending attacks.

Mr. Johnson seems like a fine man who would represent GA well. But the case for removing Ms. Mckinney simply hasn't been made.

All I've heard is how Mckinney is an "embaressment". I don't know exactly what is meant by this. I guess the incident with the capital police is what the critics cite, even though Mckinney was never charged.

The bottom line is that the district that she represents is overwhelmingly in support of Mckinney. Take it from me, I live in metro Atl. The only reason Johnson forced the runoff was because of support from the republicans in GA / nationwide. Think about all of the negative stories she has endured.

Prediction: Mckinney will win the run-off with ease & be re-elected this fall.

Why won't the media tell us what is really going on in Iraq? Yesterday, cnn reported on the news crawl that an American soldier was killed on patrol,not by a "insurgent",but by an Iraqi soldier. CNN reported that the Iraqi soldier was seriously wounded. Since I saw that report,I haven't heard or seen any mention of it since. This is disgusting,they think we're so stupid. If they want us to remember something,they just keep repeating it, but then they assume that if something slips out & they don't mention it again,we'll just think, "I must've been seeing things".

Watched a great program on C-Span2 with Michael Eric Dyson. It was from an event in Feb. 06 where he is having a discussion about his new book dealing with the Katrina disaster. It's titled "Come Hell Or High Water". I haven't read it yet but plan to do so. The discussion was very encouraging,ranging from middle-class blacks vs. poor blacks,gays in the black community,economic empowerment in the black community & politics of race.

One thing that i've noticed is that the "conservative" media is fascinated by cases of child abduction/molestation. I believe the idea is two-fold:1) Present Republicans as honorable protectors of children (As if Democrats FAVOR these horrible acts) and 2) Take every opportunity to attack judges & dilute their authority. We are after all a country of laws,thats what makes America so great. Judges are experts on our laws,not the media. The thing that gets me is,the right-wing is all for investigations into judicial decisions they disagree with,but find it unnecessary to have any oversight of our federal govt.
